Cary NC - Real estate Blog - Penny Road wins NC Bluebird Society Grant

Penny Road Elementary School has been selected by the NC Bluebird Society for an education grant of $200.00. The award is part of the NC Bluebird Grant Program, which supports North Carolina organizations, schools and/or individuals promoting bluebird conservation. John Sykes, Penny Road Elementary PTA Building and Grounds Chairman stated "We are excited to receive this generous grant from NC Bluebird Society!   Thank you to NC Bluebird Society for helping us to continue our work with our bluebird trail and science education for our students”.
 
Mr. Sykes will use the award to add feeding stations, birdbaths and essential bird house accessories to our existing bluebird program for Penny Road Elementary. This will be cooperative effort of the school’s staff and Penny Road Elementary School’s PTA to complete this project.
 
The recovery of the bluebird over the past 30 years has been attributed to bluebird societies throughout North America. The dedication of their members to put up nest boxes that replace the natural cavities; to monitor these nest boxes from March to August and to help the bluebirds in their defense against non-native birds has been a success story. Some people feel that this job is done and that bluebird societies have served their purpose. Helen Munro, President of the North Carolina Bluebird Society, points out that "children as well as adults need to be educated to the joy of helping the bluebirds, learn to monitor a nest box and provide food when the weather turns unseasonably cold. It is a job that is never done."
 
The North Carolina Bluebird Society, Inc. was established in 1986. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the future of the Eastern Bluebird and other cavity-nesting birds native to North Carolina.   The Society works toward its goal by promoting bluebird conservation projects; conducting educational programs and workshops; distributing educational materials; collecting and sharing nesting data; encouraging and aiding in the development of nestbox trails; distributing a newsletter; maintaining a website and undertaking any other endeavor that will aid our native cavity-nesting birds.
