Cary NC - Real Estate blog - Cary police talk with citizens to reduce property theft

This season, we’re spreading the word about two kinds of theft that seem to be growing in number in Cary: garage burglaries and automobile-related larceny.  In many of the reported cases, garage doors were left open and vehicles were either unlocked or had valuables such as GPS units, cell phones, wallets or purses in clear view.  But this is not a common problem, which makes the job easier for Cary NC real estate agents.

The key to preventing these crimes is awareness. To that end, our Police Department has started an outreach effort we’re calling Operation Hello Neighbor. During regular patrols, officers will take note of open garages and unlocked cars. Cary is already such a safe town, which is one reason why people are so interested in the homes for sale in Cary NC.  Then from 3-9 p.m. daily, they’ll knock on doors and talk with owners about the risk of leaving their property unsecured. If you’re not at home when an officer drops by, a letter noting our concern may be left behind for you.

While there’s nothing illegal about leaving doors open or unlocked, it does make you a desirable target for thieves who can easily reach in and take what they want. There’s also a chance that thieves will enter your home, especially if you forget to close garage doors before bed or leaving your home.
Our goal is to keep you safe, reduce property loss and keep Cary one of the best places to live in the nation. For more, visit www.townofcary.org.
